Ann Charlton is an Australian contemporary romance novelist who was born in Sydney, New South Wales, and later settled in Brisbane, Queensland. She began storytelling as a child, inventing continuing stories to distract herself from nightmares. Although she originally hoped to become a commercial artist and later worked as a secretary, her professional writing career began after entering a short-story competition. She published her first romance novel in 1984.

Charlton became a prolific author of category and contemporary romance novels during the 1980s and 1990s, with many titles published by major romance publishers, particularly Mills & Boon and Harlequin. Her novels are generally set in Australia and feature contemporary relationships, family life, and rural settings. According to her author biographies, she wrote weekdays while raising her family, and listed sketching, reading, tennis, music, dancing, and travel among her interests.
