Arthur Stringer (Arthur John Stringer)

Arthur Stringer (Arthur John Stringer 1874–1950) was a Canadian novelist, poet, journalist, and screenwriter born on February 26, 1874, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. He studied at the University of Toronto and later at Oxford before beginning a career in journalism and literature. In 1898 he moved to New York, where he became a prolific writer of novels, magazine fiction, poetry, and Hollywood screenplays. He died on September 13, 1950, in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. During his career he published approximately 45 novels, 15 non-fiction works, numerous poems, and wrote or adapted more than 20 motion pictures. His best-known works include the Prairie trilogy (Prairie Wife, Prairie Mother, and Prairie Child) and numerous adventure novels set in the Canadian North.
